With a primary goal of increasing economic and social justice through community engagement, Alliance Institute works to provide individuals, families, and organizations with the skills and tools they need to fully participate in the decision making processes that affect them in their homes, neighborhoods, and communities.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

"Bounce Nation" Youth Engagement

Working with the New Orleans Bounce culture, the Alliance Institute’s BOUNCE NATION project will utilize indigenous aspects of the culture, such as concerts and theatrical presentations, as entry points toward introducing New Orleans youth to civic engagement as a way of establishing a voice for themselves and creating influence over the future of New Orleans.   More Info

Gulf Coast Recovery

"One Gulf, Resilient Gulf," a new report released by Oxfam America, the Gulf Coast Fund for Ecological Health and Community Renewal, the Gulf Restoration Network, the Alliance Institute, and more than 100 endorsing Gulf Coast and national organizations working on the response to the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, represents the broadest effort yet to create a detailed plan to restore the region devastated by the BP oil spill.  More Info

Response to BP Oil Drilling Disaster

In response to a lack of access to health care, Alliance Insitute is working with Louisiana Bayoukeepers, Louisiana Public Health Institute, and Jefferson Health Care Clinics to arrange for volunteer doctors from across the state of Louisiana to provide services to the residents of Barataria, Crown Point, and Lafitte.  Currently, residents seeking health care have to travel to the clinic in Venice, LA.  More Info

Continuing the Fight for Expanded Healthcare Resources in Wake of BP Oil Spill Disaster

On January 12, 2011 Alliance Institute and others were invited to a small meeting following the release of “Deep Water, the Gulf Oil Disaster and the Future of Offshore Drilling” by the National Commission on the BP Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling.  At the event, Alliance Institute pointed out the need for access to health care in addition to long-term monitoring of workers associated with the disaster and the clean-up (a copy of the recommendations can be found here).

Following the 2010 BP Oil Drilling Disaster, Alliance Institute has been working diligently with the Gulf Coast Fund for Community Renewal and Ecological Health, Louisiana BayouKeepers, Jefferson Community Health Care Clinic, and the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights to bring health care services to coastal communities affected by the disaster.

Alliance Institute and its partners are currently working through a variety of avenues to access the funding necessary to make health care professionals available to gulf coast communities.
