On September 29, 2010, Alliance Institute Executive Director Stephen Bradberry joined Tony Pipa, a founder of the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation, Emily Chamlee-Wright of the Mercatus Center, and William Stallworth of Biloxi, MS Hope Community Development Agency for a panel discussion titled Philanthropy and the Storm: Five Years After Hurricane Katrina. The panel was moderated by Lenore Ealy of Thinkitecture, Inc., and hosted by the Hudson Institute.
The panel was convened to answer the following questions:
- What are the most important lessons we've learned, and how can nonprofit organizations adapt these lessons in response to future disasters?
- What role has social entrepreneurship played and how can it be utilized more effectively?
- To what degree is the government needed to guide the reconstruction efforts?
